What these numbers do — and do not — mean
Exposure is not extinction
A high score means a large share of today's tasks are automatable. Historically that reshapes a role and shrinks headcount long before it removes the occupation.
Averages hide specialization
Two people with the same job title can face very different exposure depending on how routine their actual work is. Use the individual career page, not the category average.
Estimates, updated over time
These are modeled estimates from task analysis and public US employment projections — not measured layoffs. We revise scores as capabilities and data change.
AI job loss: common questions
- How many jobs are at high risk from AI?
- In our dataset of US careers, roughly a third score in the high-risk band (65–100) for AI replacement exposure. High risk means most of the task mix is automatable — not that the occupation disappears.
- Is AI actually causing job losses today?
- The visible effect so far is hiring slowdowns and smaller teams in text- and ticket-heavy functions rather than mass layoffs attributed directly to AI. Exposure metrics predict pressure; they are not a count of jobs already lost.
- Which industries are most exposed to AI?
- Administrative, clerical, media production and routine analysis functions carry the highest average exposure. Skilled trades, hands-on healthcare and emergency services carry the lowest.
- Where do these statistics come from?
- They are computed live from our own career database, which combines task-level automation assessments with US salary and 10-year employment projections. Our methodology page documents the scoring inputs.
